Latex Foam Mattress Information

!±8± Latex Foam Mattress Information

It seems that the latex foam mattress is the next generation of the memory foam bed. These dense mattresses or "cores", which claim to last a lifetime, are usually half a foot deep with holes drilled into them for comfort. The greater the size of these pin core holes, as they are referred to, the more comfortable the mattress is. For consistency in the comfort level, most mattresses come with the same sized pin core holes.

However, different sections of latex may find more holes around the hips for support or fewer holes around the shoulders for comfort. The manufacturer often softens the cores by placing less firm latex and memory foam as layers.

Latex, derived from rubber trees, was made synthetically during the 1940s. Although both methods are still used today, most core mattresses are a hybrid of the aforementioned. Some consumers prefer the natural latex mattress at a higher price and companies are in the process of completing a truly natural latex mattress.

The method in which the mattress is formed can also affect the feel. The Dunlop method utilizes air and alternately the Talalay method places the foam in a vacuum. It seems at this time only an expert can decipher the nuances between the two. These mattresses are surprisingly spring like as opposed to the memory foam mattress that could make a sleeper dream about being in quicksand.

However, some people choose to place a 2" memory foam pad on top of their latex mattresses to target pressure points and to give it a bit of a yield. It is clear that the latex foam mattress is quickly turning into the mattress of the 21st century.
